Melissa’s been a lover of the written word since she was old enough to hold a pen. Originally from Vermont, she grew up reading Robert Frost and spent many summer days writing short stories and articles for the local paper. She went onto major in journalism and communications, all the while reporting on local news for her college newspaper and community magazines. While storytelling has always been Melissa’s passion, she soon realized that creating connections and inspiring action through words was her true calling. A love for tech blossomed, and after a pit stop at grad school (Go Hoyas!) she launched a career in tech and healthcare PR working with disruptive startups to global Fortune 500 companies.

As the company’s first vice president of its healthIT practice group, Melissa brings 15 years of strategic storytelling and consultation to the Army of Awesome. To this day, her passion lies in developing creative strategies for brands to communicate with their audiences in thoughtful and compelling ways. Her most recent integrated comms “bestsellers” resulted in a 184% increase in media referral traffic, over 3,000 views on a client’s COVID-19 landing page and over 60 media hits in top-tier publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Fierce Healthcare and Forbes on a patient screening tool launched during the pandemic.

Many of her programs have earned industry recognition including the PRSA Big Apple, Hermes Creative, PR Ragan Daily and PR News Social Media Awards. Telling a story is still her favorite part of the job, though, and she’s in her glory when she’s crafting a byline for the Chief Medical Officer.

Melissa previously sat on the board of the NY/NJ Region of the Healthcare Businesswoman’s Association and the NY chapter of the IABC. She received an HBA Leadership Award in 2019 and was named to PRSA-NY’s Top 15 under 35 in 2017.

As any good storyteller would, Melissa loves to curl up with a good book and reads fiction voraciously. She’s also an avid cook, nature lover, puzzle addict and yoga fan. But the biggest loves of her life are her husband and two young kids. Outside of the office you can usually find her hiking, at the beach or in the kitchen with her family.
